Kodaikanal: 4-Day Itinerary for July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kodaikanal Lake
    8 minutes (2 km) from Kodaikanal Bus Stand

    In the morning, take a stroll around the Kodaikanal lake and enjoy the serene beauty of the surroundings. Rent a boat and paddle around the lake to take in the views of the verdant hills and the surrounding landscapes. In the afternoon, head to the Bryant Park, a beautifully landscaped garden featuring a wide variety of flora. Walk around the park, relax on the lawns or visit the greenhouse. In the evening, head to Coaker’s Walk. This paved pathway offers panoramic views of the valleys and the surrounding hills. Don’t forget to carry a camera!

  2. Day 2: Pillar Rocks
    30 minutes (8 km) from Kodaikanal Bus Stand

    Start your day by visiting the Pillar Rocks, a set of three huge rock pillars standing tall at a height of 400 feet. Take a walk around the area, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding valley. In the afternoon, visit the Guna Caves, a set of natural caves that have an interesting history behind it. In the evening, head to the Dolphin’s Nose viewpoint, a scenic viewpoint that offers magnificent views of the valley below. Enjoy the sunset and the panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

  3. Day 3: Berijam Lake
    1 hour (23 km) from Kodaikanal Bus Stand

    Start your day early and head to Berijam Lake, a serene and picturesque location surrounded by dense forests. Take a stroll around the lake and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. You can also go for a trek in the surrounding hills if you are feeling adventurous. In the afternoon, visit the Bear Shola Falls, a stunning waterfall located amidst the forest. Take a dip in the cool waters or just relax and enjoy the scenic beauty. In the evening, head to the Kodaikanal Solar Observatory, located on the top of a hillock.   4. Day 4: Vattakanal
    20 minutes (6 km) from Kodaikanal Bus Stand

    On your last day, head to Vattakanal, a quaint and charming village located in the outskirts of Kodaikanal. Take a walk around the village and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding hills. Visit the Dolphin’s Nose viewpoint again, this time to enjoy the sunrise views. In the afternoon, visit the Kodaikanal Pine Forest, a dense forest of pine trees that offers a serene atmosphere. In the evening, head back to Kodaikanal and enjoy the local cuisine at one of the many restaurants.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Kurinji Andavar Temple, a famous temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. You can also go for a trek in the Palani Hills or visit the Thalaiyar Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in India. To maximize your fun, try adventure activities like trekking, camping, and rock climbing. You can also take a trip to the nearby hill stations like Ooty and Munnar. Lastly, don’t forget to carry warm clothes as the weather can get chilly in the evenings.
