3-Day Nature Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Soochipara Falls
    25 minutes (9.6 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, head to Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall in Vellarimala. Enjoy a scenic 1.5 km trek through a dense forest to reach the falls. Take a refreshing dip in the natural pool at the base of the falls. In the afternoon, visit Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. Take a pedal boat ride and enjoy the serene surroundings. In the evening, head to Edakkal Caves, a set of prehistoric caves with ancient petroglyphs. Trek uphill for 1 km to reach the caves and witness the stunning sunset over the Western Ghats.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 15 minutes (40.8 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. Take a boat ride on the reservoir and marvel at the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Trek to the Brahmagiri peak and witness the panoramic views of the Western Ghats. In the evening, visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary and take a safari to spot elephants, tigers, deer, and other wildlife.

  3. Day 3: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 30 minutes (49.6 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, trek to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. Trek for around 4-5 hours to reach the top and witness the stunning views of the surrounding hills. In the afternoon, visit the Wayanad Heritage Museum, a museum showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Wayanad. In the evening, visit the Karapuzha Dam, a masonry dam built on the Karapuzha River. Take a leisurely stroll on the dam and enjoy the beautiful sunset over the dam.
