Transportation

London has a comprehensive public transport system that includes buses, trains, and the famous tube. The Oyster Card or contactless payment is your key to access the system, offering cheaper fares than paper tickets. Taxis, Uber, or bike rentals are also available, but can be more expensive. Driving in London is discouraged due to traffic and low emission charge zones. Overall, plan your route ahead of time, and allocate time and distance estimates in your travel plan, as some routes may be delayed due to construction or street closures, especially during peak hours.

Useful Tips

If you have more time in London, consider day trips to nearby towns such as Bath, Brighton or Cambridge to explore, museums, antique shops, and natural sceneries. If you have less time, several walking tours within Central London could be ideal for a rapid yet comprehensive survey of the city. The tours vary in length and focus, including history, culture, and social dynamics. It's also good to research the events and exhibitions taking place during your visit to incorporate in your itinerary.

Airports

London has six international airports, and the major ones are Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick (LGW). Heathrow is the busiest airport in the UK and has excellent transportation links to the city center, about 30 minutes on the tube or the Heathrow Express train. Gatwick is the second busiest airport and has similar transport options but is further away from London. London Luton airport, London City airport, Stansted airport, and Southend airport could be another option, depending on your preferences and dates.
