Exploring Coorg's Natural Wonders - A 2-Day Itinerary for Nature Lovers in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    25 minutes (7.3 miles) from Madikeri Town

    Start your day at Abbey Falls, a breathtaking waterfall amidst lush greenery. You can take a short hike to reach the falls, and the trail is lined with coffee and spice plantations. The best time to visit is between June to October when the falls are in full flow. Spend your morning admiring the falls and taking in the fresh air. There are several viewpoints and benches to relax and enjoy the view.

    In the afternoon, head to Raja's Seat, a garden with a stunning view of the surrounding hills and valleys. This is a great spot to catch a sunset. You can also explore the garden's musical fountain and toy train ride.

    In the evening, visit Omkareshwara Temple, a beautiful temple with a blend of Islamic and Gothic architecture. The temple is open till 8 pm, so you can also catch the evening aarti here.

  2. Day 2: Nagarhole National Park
    1 hour 20 minutes (44.7 miles) from Madikeri Town

    Start early and head to Nagarhole National Park, a wildlife sanctuary known for its tigers, elephants, and bison. You can take a jeep safari through the park and spot various species of birds and animals. June is a great time to visit as the monsoons bring out the lush foliage and make it easier to spot wildlife. The safari lasts for about 3-4 hours, so make sure to carry water and snacks.

    In the afternoon, visit Dubare Elephant Camp, an elephant training camp on the banks of the river Cauvery. You can watch elephants being bathed and fed and also take a short ride on an elephant's back. The camp is open from 9 am to 11 am and 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, so plan accordingly.

    In the evening, head to Nisargadhama, an island formed by the river Cauvery. The island is accessible by a hanging rope bridge and has several activities like boating, elephant rides, and deer park. You can also shop for souvenirs at the Tibetan handicrafts center here.

Coorg is a nature lover's paradise, and there are several other places you can add to your itinerary. If you're a fan of trekking, you can visit Tadiandamol, the highest peak in Coorg.
