3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Amritsar in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Golden Temple
    12 minutes (4.3 km) from Amritsar Airport

    Start your adventure in Amritsar by visiting the Golden Temple, which is also called Harmandir Sahib. This temple is one of the most visited tourist spots in India, and its beauty and serenity will leave you spellbound. In the morning, explore the temple complex and witness the morning prayer ceremony. It's an excellent opportunity to mingle with the locals and experience their culture. In the afternoon, you can relish the delicious food served at the langar (community kitchen) free of cost. The evening is the best time to witness the temple's beauty as it is illuminated with lights and looks enchanting.

  2. Day 2: Wagah Border
    40 minutes (28 km) from Golden Temple

    On day 2, head towards Wagah Border, which separates India and Pakistan. The border ceremony that takes place every evening is a must-watch. The ceremony starts with the parade, followed by the lowering of flags of both countries and ends with the closing of the gates. The atmosphere is electric, with patriotic songs being played and the crowd cheering for their respective countries. Get there early to secure a good viewing spot. In the morning, you can visit the Jallianwala Bagh to pay your respects to the martyrs of India's freedom struggle. In the afternoon, you can visit the Partition Museum to learn about the Indian subcontinent's partition.

  3. Day 3: Gobindgarh Fort
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Wagah Border

    On day 3, head towards the Gobindgarh Fort, which is now converted into a museum. It is an excellent place to learn about Punjab's history and culture. You can witness the 7D show, which is a unique experience. In the morning, you can visit the Ram Bagh Gardens, which is home to the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum. In the afternoon, you can visit the Pul Kanjari, which is a historical village and was once Maharaja Ranjit Singh's favorite place. In the evening, you can enjoy the street food at Lawrence Road or the Old City.

Recommendations

Aside from the attractions mentioned above, you can also visit the Durgiana Temple, Mata Lal Devi Temple, and the Khalsa College. If you have more time, you can visit the nearby hill stations of Mcleodganj and Dharamshala, which are around 200 km away from Amritsar. You can also experience the traditional Punjabi village life at Sadda Pind, or take a food tour to savor the local delicacies of Amritsar. Don't forget to try the delicious Amritsari kulcha and lassi!

To maximize your fun, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, carry a water bottle, and keep sunscreen handy. It's better to start early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the heat. Also, make sure to carry cash as some of the places may not accept cards.
