Ooty Nature Tour - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Botanical Gardens
    10 minutes (3 km) from Ooty Bus Stand

    Start your day with a visit to the Botanical Gardens. Built-in 1847, this lush green garden covers 22 hectares of land and is home to a wide range of flora and fauna. Stroll around the garden and enjoy the fresh air, colorful flowers, and scenic beauty. In the morning, you can also visit the Toda Tribal village, which is located nearby. The Toda people are one of the indigenous tribes of the Nilgiri Mountains, and their lifestyle and cultural traditions are fascinating to observe. Afternoon can be spent at the Ooty Lake. At Ooty Lake, you can enjoy a beautiful boat ride amidst the tranquil surroundings and admire the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests.

  2. Day 2: Avalanche Lake
    2 hours (50 km) from Ooty Botanical Gardens

    On the second day, embark on a journey to the beautiful Avalanche Lake, which is surrounded by lush green forests and hills. The drive to Avalanche lake is scenic with tea gardens and beautiful viewpoints en route. You can also visit Emerald Dam and soak in the scenic beauty. At Avalanche Lake, you can go for a trek, take a dip in the crystal clear water, and have a picnic amidst the serene atmosphere. Be sure to carry insect repellent cream, and rain gear as the place is famous for leeches and unexpected rainfall. You can also visit the Toda huts near the lake and learn about the culture of the Toda tribe.

Make sure to visit the Dodabetta Peak which is the highest peak in the Nilgiris and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and forests. You can also visit the Wax World Museum, a unique museum that showcases wax statues of famous personalities. A side trip to Coonoor, a beautiful hill station, located 20 Km from Ooty, is also recommended. There, you can visit Sims Park which houses a wide variety of plants and trees and Lamb's Rock which offers stunning views of the Nilgiris. Don't forget to try out the famous Ooty chocolates and tea.
