4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Katra in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Vaishno Devi temple
    5 minutes (0.3 miles) from Hotel Shree Hari Niwas
    Morning: Start your day early and embark on a trek to the holy Vaishno Devi temple. The trek is about 12 km from the base camp, and it takes around 4 hours to reach the temple. Along the way, you'll come across beautiful scenery and stunning views of the mountain ranges.
    Afternoon: After reaching the temple, seek blessings of the goddess and explore the holy shrine. You can also visit the Bhairavnath temple, located a short distance away.
    Evening: Descend back to the base camp and return to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
  2. Day 2: Bhairo Baba Temple
    10 minutes (4.2 miles) from Hotel Shree Hari Niwas
    Morning: After breakfast, head to the Bhairo Baba temple. The temple is located at a high altitude, and you can reach there via a steep trek or ropeway. It is said that the journey to Vaishno Devi is incomplete without visiting this temple.
    Afternoon: After seeking blessings at the temple, indulge in some hot kadhai chai and pakoras at the nearby stalls.
    Evening: Head back to your hotel and relax for the rest of the evening.
  3. Day 3: Sanasar Lake
    2 hours (40 miles) from Hotel Shree Hari Niwas
    Morning: Wake up early and drive to Sanasar Lake, surrounded by lush greenery and the Shivalik mountain ranges. You can go for a nature walk, a horse ride or paddle boating.
    Afternoon: Enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake, or try some local street food.
    Evening: Return to your hotel and relax after a long day.
  4. Day 4: Patnitop
    2 hours 30 minutes (50 miles) from Hotel Shree Hari Niwas
    Morning: Drive to Patnitop, a quaint hill station located in the Udhampur district. Visit the Nathatop and enjoy paragliding and skiing.
    Afternoon: Visit the famous Naag temple and indulge in some street shopping.
    Evening: Return to your hotel and pack for your departure.

Recommendations

If you have time, you should also consider visiting the Chenab river, which is perfect for rafting and other water sports. If you want to extend your trip, you can plan a trip to Srinagar, which is located about 6 hours from Katra. You can also explore the local markets, where you'll find traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and souvenirs. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, especially the Rajma Chawal and Kalaadi cheese.
