Kedarnath 4-Day Itinerary in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    Located in Kedarnath
    13 minutes (5.7 km) from Sonprayag

    In the morning, visit the famous Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This holy shrine is situated at a height of 3,583 meters and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The temple opens at 6 AM and closes at 7 PM. Afternoon can be spent trekking to Vasuki Tal, a beautiful high altitude lake, which is about 8 km from Kedarnath. The trek takes around 5 hours. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at the temple, which starts at 7 PM.

  2. Day 2: Gandhi Sarovar

    1 hour 12 minutes (21 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, visit Gandhi Sarovar, which is a glacial lake situated at an altitude of 3,900 meters. The lake is named after Mahatma Gandhi, who visited this place in 1947. The trek starts from Kedarnath and takes around 6 hours to reach the lake. In the afternoon, visit Shankaracharya Samadhi, which is a memorial built to honor the saint who established the Kedarnath temple. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at the temple.

  3. Day 3: Triyuginarayan Temple

    1 hour 42 minutes (36 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, visit Triyuginarayan Temple, which is a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati were married in this place. In the afternoon, visit the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 975 square km and includes the Kedarnath and parts of the Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at the temple.

  4. Day 4: Sonprayag
    Located in Sonprayag
    1 hour 10 minutes (32 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, visit Sonprayag, which is a beautiful place situated at the confluence of two holy rivers, Mandakini and Basuki. The place is known for its scenic beauty and tranquil atmosphere. In the afternoon, visit Gaurikund, which is a hot water spring and is believed to be the place where Goddess Parvati meditated to win Lord Shiva's heart. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at the temple.
