Gokarna: A 3-Day Itinerary for City Experiences in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mahabaleshwara Temple
    5 minutes (0.3 miles) from Gokarna Beach

    In the morning, visit the Mahabaleshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple architecture is a mix of Dravidian and Western Ghats styles. The peaceful atmosphere and intricate carvings will leave you in awe. Then, head to Namaste Cafe for a scrumptious lunch with an ocean view. Spend your afternoon lounging on the Gokarna Beach, taking a dip in the sea or trying out some water sports. In the evening, stroll through the local markets and indulge in some street food or do some shopping for souvenirs.

  2. Day 2: Om Beach and Paradise Beach
    20 minutes (8.2 miles) from Gokarna Beach

    In the morning, head to Om Beach which is shaped like the auspicious symbol of "Om". The beach is surrounded by lush green hills and offers beautiful views of the sea. Take a boat ride to the Paradise Beach, which is unspoiled and secluded. Spend your afternoon snorkeling, sunbathing or just relaxing on the beach. In the evening, head to the Sunset Point for a breathtaking view of the sunset and then dine at the Half Moon Beach Cafe.

  3. Day 3: Yana Rocks
    1 hour 30 minutes (39.1 miles) from Paradise Beach

    In the morning, drive to Yana Rocks, a unique rock formation in the Western Ghats. Trek to the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara, a towering rock formation, and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding forests and hills. After the trek, head to the nearby Sahasralinga, a place of worship with thousands of lingas carved on the rocks. In the afternoon, drive back to Gokarna and spend the evening exploring the town and trying out some local delicacies.

Don't miss out on the Mirjan Fort, a 16th-century fort, which is 30 minutes away from Gokarna. The fort offers a glimpse into the rich history of the region and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape. If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to Murudeshwar, which is famous for the second tallest Shiva statue in the world and beautiful beaches.
