6-Day Adventure Itinerary for Sikkim in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    30 minutes (16 km) from Pakyong Airport

    In the morning, visit the Enchey Monastery, a 200-year-old Buddhist monastery perched on a hilltop. In the afternoon, head to the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, a research institute and museum that preserves Tibetan culture and history. End your day with a walk along MG Marg, a pedestrianized street filled with shops and restaurants.

  2. Day 2: Lachung
    4 hours (102 km) from Gangtok

    Start your day early and make the scenic drive to Lachung, a small town in the Himalayas. Stop at the Seven Sisters Waterfall and Singhik Viewpoint en route. After checking into your hotel, take a short hike to the Lachung Monastery. In the evening, relax and enjoy the stunning views of the mountains.

  3. Day 3: Yumthang Valley
    1 hour (25 km) from Lachung

    Drive to Yumthang Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers. This beautiful valley is dotted with wildflowers and surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Take a short trek to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which houses over 24 species of rhododendrons. Return to Lachung in the evening.

  4. Day 4: Pelling
    7 hours (140 km) from Lachung

    After breakfast, drive to Pelling, a small town in West Sikkim. Visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, the second oldest monastery in Sikkim that houses ancient artifacts and murals. In the afternoon, hike to the Khecheopalri Lake, a sacred lake that is believed to fulfill wishes. Enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains from the lake.

  5. Day 5: Ravangla
    3 hours (68 km) from Pelling

    Drive to Ravangla, a small town nestled in the hills. Visit the Buddha Park, a park with a giant statue of Buddha. Take a short hike to the Ralang Monastery, a beautiful monastery that offers great views of the surrounding hills. In the evening, visit the Tumlong Monastery and watch the monks perform their evening prayers.

  6. Day 6: Namchi
    2 hours (48 km) from Ravangla

    Drive to Namchi, the capital of South Sikkim. Visit the Samdruptse Hill, which houses a giant statue of Guru Padmasambhava. Take a cable car ride to the Siddheshwar Dham, a Hindu pilgrimage site that houses replicas of the four dhams of India. End your day with a visit to the Ngadak Monastery, a beautiful monastery that offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills.

Recommendations

If you're interested in more adventure activities, you can go river rafting on the Teesta River or trekking in the Singalila National Park. You can also visit the Nathu La Pass, a mountain pass on the Indo-China border that offers stunning views of the Himalayas. To maximize your fun, pack for different weather conditions, wear comfortable shoes, and carry sufficient cash as most places do not accept cards. Lastly, try the local Sikkimese cuisine, which includes momos, thukpa, and gundruk soup.
