4-Day Nature Itinerary in Munnar, Kerala in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Eravikulam National Park
    30 minutes (9.8 km) from Munnar

    Visit Eravikulam National Park in the morning to catch the endangered Nilgiri Tahr in their natural habitat. The park also boasts of a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the Neelakurinji flowers that bloom once every 12 years. Afternoon, head to Mattupetty Dam, a serene location, surrounded by hills and tea plantations. Boating facilities are available here, and if you're lucky, you might spot elephants and other animals that come to drink water. Spend the evening at Kundala Lake, enjoy the serene environment or go for a Shikara boat ride with your loved ones.

  2. Day 2: Top Station
    1 hour 15 minutes (37.4 km) from Eravikulam National Park

    Start your day early to reach Top Station, a viewpoint that offers panoramic views of the Western Ghats. The drive is scenic and filled with tea plantations. The view of the sunrise from Top station is a must-see. Afternoon, visit the Tea Museum, to learn about the history and production of tea. End your day with a visit to the Chokramudi Peak, a trekking spot with a beautiful view of the surrounding hills.

  3. Day 3: Marayoor
    1 hour 15 minutes (40 km) from Top Station

    Leave early morning to visit Marayoor, famous for its natural sandalwood forests, sugarcane fields, and jaggery making. Visit the Muniyara Dolmens, ancient burial sites dating back to the Neolithic age. Afternoon, visit the Thoovanam Waterfalls, which are a trekker's paradise. The relaxing sound of the waterfalls and the beautiful surroundings make for a perfect picnic spot. Spend the evening relaxing at the Marayoor sandalwood forest or visiting the Kanthalloor apple orchards.

  4. Day 4: Anamudi Peak
    1 hour 30 minutes (36.8km) from Marayoor

    Start early morning for a trek to Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India. The trek is challenging but rewarding, with excellent views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Afternoon, visit the Lakkam Waterfalls, a picturesque spot located on the way to Marayoor. The waterfall is surrounded by dense forests and offers a refreshing experience. Spend the evening at the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the highest tea plantation in the world, to catch the beautiful sunset.

Other local attractions that you can consider visiting are the Attukad Waterfalls, Pothamedu Viewpoint, and the Carmelagiri Elephant Park. For a side trip, you can visit Thekkady, located around 94 km from Munnar, which is famous for its wildlife, spice plantations, and the Periyar Lake.
