3-Day Coorg Nature Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Dubare Elephant Camp
    30 minutes (15 miles) from Madikeri

    In the morning, visit the Dubare Elephant Camp to experience a close encounter with Asian elephants. Watch them being bathed, fed and trained by the mahouts. Take a coracle ride on the river and spot various bird species. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Chiklihole dam and enjoy a peaceful picnic by the reservoir. In the evening, explore the Nisargadhama Island and walk over the hanging bridge amidst bamboo groves.

  2. Day 2: Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 15 minutes (36 miles) from Madikeri

    Begin the day with a trek in the Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife such as tigers, leopards, bison, elephants and several bird species. The trek is a moderately difficult one, but the views of the Western Ghats are simply breathtaking. In the afternoon, visit the Iruppu Falls and take a refreshing dip in the pool. In the evening, relax at the Rajas Seat and watch the sun set over the mountains.

  3. Day 3: Nagarhole National Park
    2 hours 20 minutes (57 miles) from Madikeri

    Start the day early with a safari in the Nagarhole National Park. The park is home to several endangered species such as tigers, Indian bison, sloth bears and several bird species. The safari lasts for about 3 hours and is a thrilling experience. In the afternoon, visit the Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement and witness the colorful Tibetan culture. In the evening, visit the Madikeri Fort and Museum and learn about the history of Coorg.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, visit the Tadiandamol Peak and trek to the highest peak in Coorg. The view from the top is simply stunning. For a unique experience, visit the coffee plantations and learn about the art of coffee making. You can also go on a river rafting or kayaking adventure in the Barapole River. To maximize your fun, rent a motorcycle and explore the countryside at your own pace. Make sure to try the local cuisine and shop for spices and homemade chocolates.
