2-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    1 hour 30 minutes (40.5 km) from Wayanad town

    Morning: Start early to reach the Chembra Peak base camp. After a 40-minute trek, reach the heart-shaped Chembra Lake, which is a fantastic spot for photography and relaxation. The trek further is a bit challenging, so it's not recommended for inexperienced trekkers. However, if you're up for it, the view from the top is breathtaking. One can see the entire Wayanad district from the top.
    Afternoon: Descend from Chembra Peak and head to the Pookode Lake, which is a 40-minute drive from the base camp. Paddle boating is an excellent way to relax and enjoy the beauty of the lake. One can also spot wild animals around the lake.
    Evening: Head to the Kuruva Island, which is a 45-minute drive from Pookode Lake. Kuruva Island is a group of small islands, and one needs to take a bamboo raft to reach them. The island is a perfect spot for birdwatching, trekking, and having a picnic.

  2. Day 2: Thusharagiri Waterfalls
    1 hour 15 minutes (38.8 km) from Wayanad town

    Morning: Start early and head to Thusharagiri Waterfalls, which is a two-hour drive from Wayanad town. The trek to the waterfalls is a bit challenging and would take around 45 minutes to one hour to reach. The waterfall is a perfect spot for swimming and photography.
    Afternoon: Head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is a 30-minute drive from the waterfall. The dam is the largest earthen dam in India and a perfect spot for a picnic. One can also enjoy various water sports activities like kayaking, speed boating, and pedal boating here.
    Evening: Head to the Edakkal Caves, which is a 45-minute drive from the dam. The caves are known for their prehistoric carvings and are a perfect spot for history lovers and photographers. The trek to the caves is a bit challenging and would take around 45 minutes to reach.

Recommendations

Other local attractions that one can consider are the Soochipara Waterfalls, Meenmutty Falls, and the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary.
