Family-Friendly 6-Day Darjeeling Itinerary for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Tiger Hill Sunrise
    10 minutes (4.2 km) from Darjeeling Town

    Start your day early and head to Tiger Hill to witness the sunrise over the Himalayas. The stunning view of the mountains and the changing colours of the sky will leave you mesmerized. Warm up with a hot cup of Darjeeling tea and breakfast at a local tea stall. Later, visit the Batasia Loop, a spiral railway track offering panoramic views of Darjeeling.

  2. Day 2: Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
    20 minutes (5.6 km) from Tiger Hill

    Visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute dedicated to Tenzing Norgay, the first man to climb Mount Everest and learn about mountaineering in the Himalayas. Next, explore the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and see rare Himalayan animals like the red panda, snow leopard and Tibetan wolf. End the day with a walk around the Mall Road, Darjeeling's vibrant market area.

  3. Day 3: Darjeeling Ropeway and Happy Valley Tea Estate

  4. Day 4: Ghoom Monastery and Japanese Peace Pagoda
    20 minutes (6.9 km) from Happy Valley Tea Estate

    Explore the Ghoom Monastery, one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in Darjeeling and home to a 15-foot high statue of Maitreya Buddha. Next, visit the Japanese Peace Pagoda, a symbol of peace and harmony, and enjoy the panoramic views of the Darjeeling hills. Spend the evening at the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway station and watch the toy train pass through the market area.

  5. Day 5: Mirik Lake
    1 hour 30 minutes (50 km) from Darjeeling Town

    Take a day trip to the picturesque Mirik Lake, famous for its serene ambiance, boating and scenic views. Enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding hills, walk around the lake and explore the local market. On the way back, stop at Pashupati Market, a popular shopping destination for cheap electronic goods and clothes.

  6. Day 6: Rock Garden and Ganga Maya Park
    30 minutes (14.3 km) from Darjeeling Town

    Explore the Rock Garden, a beautiful park with waterfalls, streams, and rock formations surrounded by lush greenery. Next, visit the Ganga Maya Park, famous for its beautiful flowers, serene ambiance and the view of the Teesta River. End your trip with a visit to the Mahakal Temple, a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.
