2-Day Adventure Itinerary from Delhi to Amritsar in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit Golden Temple
    10 hours (450 km) from Indira Gandhi International Airport

    Start your adventure by visiting the iconic Golden Temple, the holiest place for Sikhism. In the morning, take a walk around the temple and learn about its history and significance. Take a dip in the holy Sarovar and enjoy the serene atmosphere. Take a lunch break and try out local Punjabi cuisine like Amritsari Kulcha, Lassi and Chhole Bhature. In the afternoon, head towards the Wagah Border to witness the Beating Retreat Ceremony. This ceremony takes place every evening and marks the closing of the border between India and Pakistan. In the evening, head back to the Golden Temple to witness the Palki Sahib Ceremony, a daily ritual of carrying the holy book of Sikhism from the main shrine to the inner sanctum.

  2. Day 2: Visit Jallianwala Bagh & Partition Museum
    10 minutes (1.5 km) from Golden Temple

    Start your day by visiting Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden that witnessed the massacre of peaceful protesters by British troops in 1919. Pay your respects at the Martyrs' Well and the Flame of Liberty. In the afternoon, visit the Partition Museum to learn about the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. Take a guided tour to understand the impact of partition on people's lives and experience the emotions through various exhibits. If time permits, you can also visit the Gobindgarh Fort in the evening to experience the cultural and historical significance of the fort.

If you're interested in adventure activities, you can try zip lining, boating, and other outdoor activities at the Ranjit Sagar Dam, which is about 2 hours from Amritsar. You can also take a day trip to Dharamshala, which is about 4 hours from Amritsar, to witness the stunning views of the Himalayan mountains and visit the home of Dalai Lama. If you want to maximize your fun, you can also explore the local markets in Amritsar such as the Hall Bazar, Lawrence Road, and Katra Jaimal Singh Market to shop for local specialties like Phulkari embroidered clothes, Juttis, and handicrafts.
