2-Day Motorcycle Riding Itinerary in Leh, July 2023

  1. Day 1: Indus Valley
    30 minutes (17.9 km) from Leh

    In the morning, head to the Shey Palace and Gompa, situated 15 km from Leh. Built-in the 17th century, it is famous for its colossal copper and gold statue of Lord Buddha. Afterward, head to the Thiksey Monastery, located atop a hill, which provides an excellent view of the valley. Enjoy lunch at the monastery's café. In the afternoon, visit the Hemis Monastery, one of the wealthiest monasteries in India. It houses an impressive collection of ancient relics and art. Return to Leh in the evening and explore the local markets and try some delicious Tibetan cuisine.

  2. Day 2: Khardungla and Nubra Valley
    3 hours (120 km) from Leh

    Early morning, start your ride to Khardungla Pass, the world's highest motorable road, at an altitude of 5,359 meters. Enjoy the breathtaking views and take some memorable photos. Afterward, ride to the Nubra Valley, situated at an altitude of 3,048 meters above sea level. Visit the Diskit Monastery, which houses a 32-meter statue of Maitreya Buddha. Enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the local restaurants. In the late afternoon, visit the Hunder Sand Dunes and enjoy a camel ride. Return to Leh in the evening.

Recommendations

If you have extra time in Leh, you can explore the Leh Palace, which is a nine-story building and offers an incredible view of the city. You can also visit the Stok Palace, which houses a museum showcasing the royal heritage of Ladakh. Another exciting activity is white-water rafting in the Zanskar River.

For a side trip, you can visit the Pangong Tso Lake, which is famous for its blue water and is a popular destination among tourists. You can also try trekking in the Markha Valley and explore the beautiful landscape of Ladakh.

Make sure to carry enough water and sunscreen for the trip. You can also rent a motorcycle in Leh if you don't have one. Lastly, respect the local culture and traditions while traveling in Ladakh.
