4-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Nepal, North Sikkim, Darjeeling and Gangtok in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kathmandu, Nepal
    10 minutes (3.2 km) from Tribhuvan International Airport

    In the morning, visit the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, head to the Pashupatinath Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learn about Hinduism. In the evening, stroll through the bustling streets of Thamel and do some souvenir shopping.

  2. Day 2: Lachung, North Sikkim
    5 hours (123 km) from Darjeeling

    In the morning, drive to Lachung and enjoy the scenic views of the snow-capped mountains and waterfalls. In the afternoon, visit the Yumthang Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers. In the evening, relax at your hotel and taste the local Sikkimese cuisine.

  3. Day 3: Darjeeling, West Bengal
    3 hours (67 km) from Gangtok

    In the morning, watch the sunrise over the Kanchenjunga mountain range from the Tiger Hill. In the afternoon, visit the Happy Valley Tea Estate and learn about the tea-making process. In the evening, take a ride on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site also known as the Toy Train.

  4. Day 4: Gangtok, Sikkim
    2 hours (98 km) from Darjeeling

    In the morning, visit the Enchey Monastery and Rumtek Monastery, both of which are important Buddhist pilgrimage sites. In the afternoon, explore the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology and learn about Sikkimese culture and history. In the evening, take a leisurely walk around the MG Road and enjoy the local street food.

Recommendations

Consider visiting the Changu Lake and Nathula Pass if you have extra time in Gangtok. You can also take a day trip to the nearby city of Kalimpong from Darjeeling for more stunning views of the Himalayas. Don't forget to try the momos, a popular local dish, and buy some traditional Sikkimese handicrafts as souvenirs.
