Kedarnath Itinerary for January 2024

  1. Day 1: Visit Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, visit the famous Kedarnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple opens at 6:00 am and is located in the town of Kedarnath. It is believed that by visiting the temple, one can attain moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death).

    Afternoon: You can explore the scenic beauty around the temple. The town of Kedarnath is located at an altitude of 3584 meters and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Take a walk around the town and marvel at the beauty of the Himalayas.

    Evening: Attend the Aarti ceremony at the Kedarnath Temple. The ceremony takes place every evening at 7:00 pm and is a spiritual experience. The temple is beautifully illuminated during the Aarti ceremony, and the chants of the priests create a peaceful atmosphere.

  2. Day 2: Visit Vasuki Tal

    In the morning, visit Vasuki Tal, a high altitude lake located at an altitude of 4135 meters. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is a beautiful sight to behold. However, the stunning views of the Himalayas and the tranquility of the lake make it worth the effort.

    Afternoon: Visit Gandhi Sarovar, a picturesque lake located about 3 km from Vasuki Tal. The lake is named after Mahatma Gandhi, and it is believed that he used to bathe in the waters of the lake during his visit to Kedarnath.

    Evening: You can spend the evening exploring the town of Kedarnath and trying out the local cuisine. The town has several small eateries that serve authentic Garhwali cuisine.

Recommendations

If you have time, you can also visit Triyuginarayan Temple, which is located about 25 km from Kedarnath. The temple is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. You can also visit Gaurikund, which is the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath. The town of Guptkashi is also worth a visit, especially for its scenic beauty.

It is recommended to carry warm clothes and comfortable shoes for the trek to Vasuki Tal. Also, do not forget to carry a first aid kit and sufficient food and water. It is advisable to hire a guide for the trek.
