6-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary for Kedarnath in October 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple

  3. Day 3: Gandhi Sarovar

    Take a short drive to Gandhi Sarovar, a glacial lake named after Mahatma Gandhi. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and is a popular spot for camping and trekking. Spend the day enjoying the scenery and exploring the area. Return to Kedarnath in the evening.

  4. Day 4: Shankaracharya Samadhi

  6. Day 6: Gaurikund
    15.7 km (45 minutes) from Kedarnath

    Make a day trip to Gaurikund, a famous Hindu pilgrimage site located at an altitude of 1,982 m. According to Hindu mythology, Gaurikund is the place where Goddess Parvati meditated to win Lord Shiva's heart. Spend the day exploring the town and visiting the nearby hot springs. Return to Kedarnath in the evening.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the nearby town of Guptkashi or taking a side trip to the Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. To maximize your fun, try local delicacies like kachmauli and bal mithai, and don't forget to carry warm clothes and comfortable shoes.
