4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Kedarnath in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    10 minutes (0.5 km) from Kedarnath Bus Stand

    Morning: Start your day early with a visit to the Kedarnath Temple, one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism. The temple is believed to have been built in the 8th century and is dedicated to Lord Shiva.   2. Day 2: Chorabari Glacier Trek
    2 hours (9.8 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Start your trek to Chorabari Glacier, also known as Gandhi Sarovar Glacier, early in the morning. The trek is a challenging one and takes approximately 6-7 hours to complete. Witness the stunning views of the Kedarnath peak and the surrounding glaciers on your way to the glacier.
    Afternoon: Enjoy a packed lunch by the glacier and take in the serene beauty of the place.
    Evening: Trek back to Kedarnath and relax at your hotel after a tiring day.

  3. Day 3: Sonprayag
    30 minutes (20 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Take a taxi to Sonprayag, a small town situated at the confluence of the Mandakini and Basuki Ganga rivers. Explore the town and visit the ancient Triyuginarayan Temple, believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married.
    Afternoon: Take a dip in the natural hot water spring at Gauri Kund, located 28 km from Sonprayag. The water is believed to have medicinal properties and is a popular spot for pilgrims.
    Evening: Head back to Kedarnath and enjoy a local dinner at one of the many restaurants in the town.

  4. Day 4: Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 20 minutes (45.1 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Morning: Visit the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 975 square km and is home to animals such as snow leopards, Himalayan black bears, musk deer, and more.
    Afternoon: Enjoy a picnic lunch by the Mandakini River and take in the picturesque views of the sanctuary.
    Evening: Head back to Kedarnath and spend your last evening in the town shopping for souvenirs and enjoying the local cuisine.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, you can visit the nearby town of Guptkashi, located approximately 30 km from Kedarnath. The town is home to the ancient Vishwanath Temple and Ardhnareshwar Temple. You can also take a day trip to the beautiful town of Rudraprayag, located approximately 70 km from Kedarnath, and visit the Koteshwar Mahadev Temple and the Rudranath Temple. If you're looking for a more challenging trek, you can trek to the nearby Tungnath Temple, which is the highest Shiva temple in the world and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks.
