Family-Friendly Itinerary for 2 days in Ooty (June 2023)

  1. Day 1: Ooty Botanical Gardens
    10 minutes (2.5 km) from Ooty Lake

    Start your day at the Ooty Botanical Gardens, which is spread over 22 hectares and has more than 650 species of plants and trees. You'll be astounded by the vast collection of exotic plants, including the Monkey Puzzle tree, Cork tree and Paperbark tree. Spend the morning exploring the different sections of the garden, especially the fern house, which houses a variety of ferns and orchids. Afternoon, head to the Rose Garden just a few minutes away for a picturesque view and the evening can be spent at the Government Museum, which showcases tribal artifacts and sculptures.

  2. Day 2: Doddabetta Peak
    16 minutes (6.5 km) from Ooty Botanical Gardens

    Start your day early to catch the sunrise from Doddabetta Peak, the highest peak in the Nilgiri Mountains. The panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and hills is breathtaking and worth the visit. You can spend the morning here exploring the scenic beauty and taking pictures. Afternoon, head to the Ooty Lake for a boat ride and visit the Deer Park located adjacent to it. The evening can be spent at the Thunder World, for a fun-filled time with family.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Pykara Waterfalls, which is just 20 km from the city or take a toy train ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also, don't forget to taste the local cuisine and shop for souvenirs at the local bazaars. You can also explore nearby towns such as Coonoor and Kotagiri for a day trip. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a hat.
