Kedarnath Family Friendly 5-Day Itinerary in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    Walking distance from Kedarnath Bus Stand
    Morning: Start your trip by visiting the famous Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, and one of the four sacred places in Hinduism. It's a unique experience to witness the holy atmosphere and the stunning views of the Himalayas surrounding the temple.
    Afternoon: After lunch, you can take a leisure walk to Gandhi Sarovar or Vasuki Tal. Both these places offer breathtaking views of the mountains and glaciers.
    Evening: In the evening, you can relax and enjoy the serene ambiance of Kedarnath. You can also attend the evening aarti (worship) at Kedarnath Temple, which is a beautiful ritual you must not miss.
  2. Day 2: Gaurikund and Sonprayag
    40 minutes (17.6 km) from Kedarnath Temple
    Morning: After breakfast, you can take a drive to Gaurikund, which is the starting point of the trek to Kedarnath Temple. Here, you can take a dip in the holy hot water spring and offer your prayers to the Gauri Mata Temple, located nearby.
    Afternoon: From Gaurikund, you can drive to Sonprayag, where the two holy rivers, Mandakini and Basuki meet. This place is believed to be the gateway to Lord Vishnu's abode, Badrinath. You can spend some time here enjoying the scenic beauty and clicking pictures with your loved ones.
    Evening: Return to Kedarnath and enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the local restaurants.
  3. Day 3: Bhairavnath Temple and Kedarnath Museum
    10 minutes (1.6 km) from Kedarnath Temple
    Morning: Visit the Bhairavnath Temple, which is situated above the Kedarnath Temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Bhairav, a fierce form of Lord Shiva. It's a challenging trek to reach the temple, but the stunning views of the Himalayas and the tranquil atmosphere make it worth the effort.
    Afternoon: In the afternoon, you can visit the Kedarnath Museum, which houses some fascinating artifacts and exhibits related to the history and culture of Kedarnath. It's an excellent place to understand the significance of the temple and the pilgrimage.
    Evening: Return to Kedarnath and spend some time at your hotel or explore the local market.
  4. Day 4: Triyuginarayan Temple and Tungnath Temple
    1 hour 45 minutes (31.2 km) from Kedarnath Temple
    Morning: After breakfast, take a scenic drive to Triyuginarayan Temple, which is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. The temple is surrounded by beautiful mountains and is a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus.
    Afternoon: After lunch, you can drive to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva Temple in the world. It's a 3.5 km trek from Chopta, and the views of the Himalayas and the lush green meadows are awe-inspiring.
    Evening: Enjoy the beautiful sunset from the Tungnath Temple, and then head back to Kedarnath for dinner.
  5. Day 5: Vasuki Tal
    2 hours 30 minutes (8.3 km) from Kedarnath Temple
    Morning: Start your day early and drive to Sonprayag, from where the trek to Vasuki Tal begins. The trek is challenging, but the stunning views of the Himalayas and the glacial lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks make it an unforgettable experience.
    Afternoon: After lunch by the lake, trek back to Kedarnath and relax at your hotel.
    Evening: Enjoy a beautiful dinner at your hotel and reminisce about the wonderful memories you have created with your family during this trip.

Recommendations

Apart from the places mentioned above, you can also visit the Guptkashi Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and is located just 28 km from Kedarnath. If you have extra days, you can also plan a trip to the nearby hill station of Chopta, which is known as the "Mini Switzerland of India." For maximizing your fun, try local food, interact with locals and take some unique photos with the scenic views.
