3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Sikkim in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    33 minutes (15.7 km) from Pakyong Airport

    In the morning, visit the Enchey Monastery, an important seat of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism. Afternoon can be spent at the Banjhakri Falls and Energy Park, which features a beautiful waterfall, gardens, and a plaza for cultural performances. In the evening, take a stroll through the MG Marg, a pedestrian-only market street for shopping and dining.

  2. Day 2: Nathula Pass and Tsomgo Lake
    2 hours 24 minutes (56.4 km) from Gangtok

    Start early to visit the Nathula Pass, a high-altitude mountain pass on the Indo-China border. Afternoon can be spent relaxing at the Tsomgo Lake, a beautiful glacial lake nestled in the mountains. In the evening, return to Gangtok to explore the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, a museum and research center dedicated to the study of Tibetan culture and religion.

  3. Day 3: Yumthang Valley
    5 hours 35 minutes (144 km) from Gangtok

    Start early to head to the Yumthang Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers, to see the beautiful alpine flowers in bloom. Afternoon can be spent trekking to the hot springs nearby for a relaxing dip. In the evening, return to Gangtok for dinner and drinks at one of the local bars or restaurants.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Rumtek Monastery, the largest in Sikkim, or the Pelling area to see the Khecheopalri Lake and the Pemayangtse Monastery. For a side trip, head to Darjeeling to see the tea plantations and enjoy a cup of tea or take a ride on the famous Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. To maximize your fun, book a trek to the Goecha La pass or rafting on the Teesta River. Lastly, don't forget to try the local Sikkimese cuisine, which is a unique blend of Nepalese, Tibetan, and Indian flavors.
