Exploring Sikkim with Family in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    35 minutes (19.1 km) from Pakyong Airport

    In the morning, visit the Enchey Monastery, an ancient Buddhist site with stunning views of the Kanchenjunga range. Have lunch at the Cafe Live & Loud, which offers an excellent selection of Chinese, Indian and Tibetan cuisine. After lunch, head to the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, which contains a vast collection of Tibetan artefacts and a beautiful garden. Explore the MG Marg, the popular shopping area, in the evening, which is closed to vehicles and has a fantastic atmosphere.

  2. Day 2: Lachung
    4 hours (104 km) from Gangtok

    Start your day early and drive to Lachung, a beautiful valley surrounded by snow-capped mountains and waterfalls. En route, you can visit the Seven Sisters Waterfalls, Singhik viewpoint and Naga Waterfalls. Have lunch at a local restaurant in Chungthang, which serves delicious Sikkimese cuisine. In the afternoon, visit the Lachung Monastery, which is over 100 years old and has intricate murals. In the evening, enjoy a bonfire and traditional Sikkimese dinner at your hotel.

  3. Day 3: Pelling
    4 hours 30 minutes (120.7 km) from Lachung

    After breakfast, drive to Pelling, a scenic town located at the foothills of the Himalayas. Visit the Pemayangtse Monastery, one of the oldest and most significant monasteries in Sikkim, in the morning. Have lunch at the Melting Point restaurant, which has a beautiful view of the Kanchenjunga. In the afternoon, visit the Rabdentse Ruins, the second capital of Sikkim, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the evening, stroll through the quaint town of Pelling and enjoy the local delicacies.

Recommendations

If you have time, you can also visit the Tsomgo Lake, a glacial lake surrounded by snow-capped mountains, and the Nathula Pass, a mountain pass on the Indo-China border. You can also go on a trek in the Khangchendzonga National Park, which is home to diverse flora and fauna. To maximize your fun, try the local delicacies like momos, thukpa and chaang.
