Five-day Chennai to Munnar Itinerary in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Chennai to Vellore
    2 hours 30 minutes (138 km)

    Start your journey from Chennai, and head to Vellore, a vibrant city in Tamil Nadu. Visit the historic Vellore Fort, which dates back to the 16th century, and the Jalakandeswarar Temple, a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the evening, take a walk around the beautiful Palar River.

  2. Day 2: Vellore to Kodaikanal
    6 hours 30 minutes (290 km)

    On day 2, head to Kodaikanal, a beautiful hill station in Tamil Nadu. Enjoy a morning walk around the Kodai Lake, followed by a visit to the Coaker's Walk, a scenic walking trail with breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. In the afternoon, visit the Pillar Rocks, three massive granite boulders standing vertically shoulder to shoulder.

  3. Day 3: Kodaikanal to Munnar

    On the third day, proceed to Munnar, an incredibly beautiful hill station in Kerala. Visit the Mattupetty Dam, which offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding hills, and the Tea Museum, which showcases the history and evolution of tea plantations in the region. In the evening, explore the local markets and try some local delicacies.

  4. Day 4: Munnar
    Full Day

    Spend the day exploring the beauty of Munnar. Start with a visit to the Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, followed by a visit to the Echo Point, where you can hear your voice reverberate around the surrounding hills. In the evening, trek to the Top Station, which offers panoramic views of the Western Ghats.

  5. Day 5: Departure from Munnar
    4 hours 30 minutes (140 km)

    On your final day, depart from Munnar and head back to Chennai. On the way, visit the Cheeyappara Waterfalls, a stunning waterfall cascading down seven steps, and the Valara Waterfalls, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valley. Finally, head to the airport and fly back home.

Recommendations

If you have some extra time, visit the Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India, and the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. You can also take a side trip to the beautiful hill station of Ooty.
