Ooty on a Shoestring Budget - June 2023

  1. Day 1: Government Botanical Garden
    7 minutes (1.6 km) from Ooty Bus Stand

    Morning: Visit the Government Botanical Garden, spread over 55 acres of land, it houses a vast collection of exotic plants, ferns, and flowers. The highlight of the garden is the Toda Hill, which offers an excellent view of the surrounding hills. Don't miss the fossil tree that is believed to be 20 million years old.

    Afternoon: Head to the Ooty Lake, just a 4-minute drive away, and take a relaxing boat ride. The lake offers a scenic view of the surrounding mountains and is a popular spot for photography.

    Evening: End your day by visiting the Tea Factory and Museum, which is a 10-minute drive from the lake. You will get to learn about the history and process of tea-making and even sample some delicious tea.

  2. Day 2: Doddabetta Peak
    45 minutes (10.2 km) from Government Botanical Garden

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Doddabetta Peak, the highest point in the Nilgiri Mountains. The peak offers a panoramic view of the entire valley, and if you're lucky, you might even spot some wildlife.

    Afternoon: Head to the Pykara Waterfalls, just a 30-minute drive from the peak. The falls offer a picturesque view and are a popular spot for picnics. You can also take a boat ride in the Pykara Lake, located next to the falls.
