2-Day Itinerary for Rishikesh in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit Temples and Attend Ganga Aarti

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Trimbakeshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Explore its intricate carvings and beautiful architecture. Next, head to the Lakshman Jhula, an iconic suspension bridge over the Ganges. Take a walk on the bridge and enjoy the scenic views of the river and surrounding hills. Afternoon: After a traditional Indian lunch, visit the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, situated amidst the dense forests of the Pauri Garhwal district. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is believed to be the place where he consumed the poison that turned his throat blue. Evening: Attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony at the Parmarth Niketan Ashram, located on the banks of the Ganges. This is a beautiful and spiritual event that takes place every evening and involves lighting lamps and chanting prayers by the river.

  2. Day 2: Explore Nature and Adventure Activities

    Morning: Start your day early and head to the Rajaji National Park, a wildlife reserve that is home to tigers, elephants, and many other animals. Take a jungle safari and spot some of the rarest birds and animals in their natural habitat. Afternoon: After lunch, indulge in some adventure activities like white water rafting, bungee jumping, or zip-lining. Rishikesh is famous for its adventure sports and there are many operators that provide these activities. Evening: End your day with a visit to the Beatles Ashram, also known as the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram. This is where the legendary band, The Beatles, stayed in 1968 and composed many of their songs. The ashram is now abandoned but has beautiful murals and graffiti that are worth exploring.

Apart from the above-mentioned places, you can also consider visiting the Vashishta Gufa, a cave where the great sage Vashishta is believed to have meditated. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Haridwar, known for its ancient temples and the Har Ki Pauri ghat. To maximize your fun, you can also try your hand at some yoga or meditation classes. Rishikesh is known as the yoga capital of the world and has many experienced teachers and schools. Lastly, we suggest you try the local street food, which is delicious and affordable. Don't forget to try the famous "lassi," a sweet yogurt-based drink that is a must-try in Rishikesh.
