3-Day Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    20 minutes (8.6 km) from Wayanad

    In the morning, explore the prehistoric Edakkal Caves, which offer breathtaking views of the Western Ghats and the surrounding lush greenery. These caves are known for their ancient rock art and fascinating history. Afterward, grab lunch at the nearby local restaurants that serve delicious traditional Kerala cuisine. Spend the afternoon at the Soochipara Waterfalls, which is an hour drive from the caves. The falls are a three-tiered waterfall which drops from a height of 200 metres, surrounded by evergreen forests and tea gardens. End the day at the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India, and enjoy the serene beauty of the place.

  2. Day 2: Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary
    30 minutes (12.5 km) from Banasura Sagar Dam

    Begin the day early with a visit to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of animals such as tigers, elephants, leopards, and deer. Enjoy a Jeep Safari around the sanctuary to witness the wildlife. Afternoon can be spent at the Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake that lies in the middle of the lush green mountains. Take a boat ride and enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake. End the day with a peaceful visit to the Thirunelli Temple, which is an ancient temple surrounded by mountains, rivers and forests.

  3. Day 3: Chembra Peak
    50 minutes (19.4 km) from Thirunelli Temple

    On the last day of the trip, trek to the highest peak in Wayanad, the Chembra Peak. The trek is about 4-5 km long, and the view from the peak is breathtaking. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks for the trek. After the trek, head to the Kuruvadweep, a river island located in the middle of the Kabini River. It is a serene place with lush greenery and is perfect for a picnic. End the day at the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a Project Elephant site and is known for its diverse flora and fauna.
