Two Days in Waynad: A Nature Lover's Paradise

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (12 miles) from Kalpetta

    Morning: Start your day early and head to Chembra Peak, the tallest peak in Waynad. The trek to the top takes around 3 hours, but the stunning views of the lush green surroundings make it all worth it. Don't forget to take a picture with the heart-shaped lake on the way up.

    Afternoon: After the trek, head to the Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. Take a leisurely boat ride around the lake, or go for a nature walk in the surrounding area.

    Evening: End your day by visiting the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient cave art. The caves are open until 5 pm, so make sure you reach there in time.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam
    40 minutes (20 miles) from Sulthan Bathery

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India. Take a walk on the dam, and enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding mountains and the Banasura lake.

    Afternoon: After the dam, head to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its tiger and elephant reserves. Go on a jeep safari to spot the wildlife, or take a nature walk with a guide to learn about the flora and fauna of the area.

    Evening: End your day by visiting the Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush green forests. Take a dip in the cool waters or just relax and take in the breathtaking views.

If you have some extra time, you can also visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple located in the Brahmagiri hills. You can also go on a tea plantation tour in the district to learn about how tea is grown and processed. If you want to maximize your fun, consider going on a zip line adventure in the forests or try your hand at bamboo rafting in the nearby rivers.
