Sikkim Adventure Itinerary for June 2023

  1. Day 1: Gangtok
    1 hour 20 minutes (31 miles) from Bagdogra Airport

    In the morning, visit the Enchey Monastery which was built in the 19th century. It is a great place to learn about Buddhism. Afterward, head to the Hanuman Tok viewpoint to enjoy panoramic views of the city. In the afternoon, visit the Mall Road for shopping and try local delicacies at MG Marg. In the evening, visit the Ridge Park and enjoy the sunset view.

  2. Day 2: Tsomgo Lake
    1 hour 30 minutes (35 miles) from Gangtok

    Start early in the morning to visit the Tsomgo Lake, which is located at an altitude of 12,400 feet. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and offers picturesque views. In the afternoon, visit the nearby Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, dedicated to an Indian soldier who died near Nathula Pass. In the evening, return to Gangtok and stroll through the town and enjoy the local nightlife.

  3. Day 3: Pelling
    4 hours 40 minutes (110 miles) from Gangtok

    In the morning, leave for Pelling, which is known for its natural beauty. On the way, visit the Ravangla Buddha Park, which houses one of the tallest Buddha statues in Asia. In the afternoon, visit the Khecheopalri Lake, which is considered sacred by the locals. In the evening, visit the Rimbi Waterfall and enjoy the scenic beauty.

  4. Day 4: Yuksom
    1 hour 30 minutes (30 miles) from Pelling

    In the morning, head to Yuksom, which is the base camp for many treks in Sikkim. Visit the Norbugang Park, which is considered a sacred place by the locals. It is also where the first king of Sikkim was crowned. In the afternoon, visit the Dubdi Monastery, which is the oldest monastery in Sikkim. In the evening, enjoy the local cuisine and culture.

  5. Day 5: Nathula Pass
    3 hours 30 minutes (48 miles) from Yuksom

    In the morning, travel to Nathula Pass, which is located on the border of India and China. It is one of the highest motorable roads in the world and offers spectacular views of the Himalayan Range. In the afternoon, return to Gangtok and visit the Himalayan Zoological Park where you can see the endangered Red Panda. In the evening, visit the Banjhakri Falls, which is a natural waterfall and has an amusement park nearby.

  6. Day 6: Darjeeling
    3 hours 30 minutes (75 miles) from Gangtok

    In the morning, leave for Darjeeling, a hill station known for its tea plantations. In the afternoon, visit the Happy Valley Tea Estate, which was established in the 19th century and offers a guided tour of the tea-making process. In the evening, visit the Tiger Hill to see the sunrise and enjoy the panoramic view of the Kanchenjunga Range.

Recommendations

You can consider visiting the Rumtek Monastery, which is one of the largest monasteries in Sikkim. You can also go for trekking in Dzongri or Goechala Pass. A side trip to Zuluk, a small village located on the old silk route, can also be planned. To maximize your fun, try the local delicacies such as momos and thukpa. Don't forget to buy some tea from Darjeeling and Sikkim to take back home as a souvenir. Lastly, we suggest hiring a local guide for your trekking tours for a better experience.
