A 3-Day Itinerary for Coorg in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    20 minutes (6.5 miles) from Madikeri

    Start your day early with a visit to the stunning Abbey Falls. The water cascades down from a height of 70 feet, creating a beautiful misty landscape. You can trek down to the falls and enjoy the cool water. After a refreshing morning, head to Madikeri for some local breakfast at the famous East End Hotel. Afternoon can be spent sightseeing at Omkareshwara Temple and Raja's Seat. You can also explore the local market at Raja's Seat. In the evening, head to the Mandalpatti viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the valley.

  2. Day 2: Dubare Elephant Camp and Nisargadhama
    1 hour 30 minutes (30 miles) from Madikeri

    Visit the Dubare Elephant Camp in the morning and watch elephants bathe, feed and play around the river. You can also indulge in activities like elephant rides and coracle rides. Later, head to Nisargadhama, an island formed by the River Cauvery for a serene afternoon surrounded by nature. You can also partake in adventure activities such as zip-lining and boating. In the evening, head to the Namdroling Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple.

  3. Day 3: Talakaveri and Bhagamandala
    1 hour 15 minutes (28 miles) from Madikeri

    Start your day by visiting the birthplace of the River Cauvery, the Talakaveri temple. Enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding hills and forests from the Brahmagiri peak. Then, head to Bhagamandala, where the Cauvery meets the Kannika and Sujyoti rivers. Visit the Bhagandeshwara Temple and take a dip in the Triveni Sangam. In the evening, head back to Madikeri for some souvenir shopping at the local markets.

Recommendations

If you have more time, you can visit the Irupu Falls or take a trek to Tadiandamol, the highest peak in Coorg. You can also plan a visit to the Chiklihole Reservoir or the coffee plantations. To maximize your fun, hire a bike and explore the scenic roads of Coorg. Another suggestion would be to attend the Kodava Hockey Festival, which takes place in the month of July. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, including Pandi Curry and Akki Roti.
