Exploring Cambodia in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Angkor Wat
    15 minutes (6.5 km) from Siem Reap City Centre

    In the morning, explore the largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Wat. Built-in the 12th century, this temple is one of the most iconic tourist destinations in Cambodia. Spend some time admiring the intricate details of the carvings before heading to Banteay Srei, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the afternoon, visit the Angkor Thom complex, which consists of Bayon, Baphuon, and Phimeanakas temples. End the day with the sunset view at Phnom Bakheng Hill.

  2. Day 2: Tonle Sap Lake
    25 minutes (15.3 km) from Siem Reap City Centre

    Start your day with a visit to the floating village of Chong Khneas on the Tonle Sap Lake. Observe the local lifestyle and visit the floating market before taking a boat ride around the lake. In the afternoon, head to the Landmine Museum and Relief Centre to learn about the history of landmines in Cambodia and the efforts to remove them. End the day with a visit to the Siem Reap night market to shop for souvenirs and try out local street food.

  3. Day 3: Phnom Penh
    5 hours (318 km) from Siem Reap City Centre

    Take a day trip to Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh. In the morning, visit the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda to appreciate the stunning architecture and the history of the Cambodian monarchy. In the afternoon, head to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum to learn about the dark period of the Khmer Rouge regime. End the day with a visit to the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center to pay respects to the victims of the genocide.

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Kulen Mountain National Park, the Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary, or the Koh Ker temple complex.
