4-Day Adventure Itinerary for Darjeeling in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Tiger Hill
    20 minutes (7.5 miles) from Darjeeling town

    In the early morning, head to Tiger Hill to catch the breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas. Enjoy the view and take photos. Afterwards, visit the nearby Ghoom Monastery to learn about Tibetan Buddhism and witness the prayer rituals. In the afternoon, go on a 3-hour trek to the Happy Valley Tea Estate. Learn about tea production and sample some of the finest teas. In the evening, visit the Nightingale Park for a stroll and enjoy the musical fountain.

  2. Day 2: Rock Climbing and Ropeway
    15 minutes (3 miles) from Darjeeling town

    Spend the morning rock climbing at Tenzing Rock, a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. After lunch, take the Ropeway to the Singla Bazaar. Enjoy the panoramic views of the valley and take photos. In the afternoon, explore the Singalila National Park and go for a nature walk. In the evening, visit the Darjeeling Observatory Hill and watch the sunset over the Kanchenjunga mountain range.

  3. Day 3: River Rafting and Paragliding
    2 hours (35 miles) from Darjeeling town

    Head to the Teesta River for an exciting river rafting adventure. The thrilling rapids and scenic views make for an unforgettable experience. After lunch, drive to Kalimpong for paragliding. Soar over the hills and valleys as you take in the stunning landscape. In the evening, visit the Kalimpong Arts and Crafts Centre to admire the local handicrafts and artworks.

  4. Day 4: Mirik Lake and Hiking
    2 hours (36 miles) from Darjeeling town

    Spend the morning at Mirik Lake, a serene and picturesque lake surrounded by lush greenery. Enjoy boating on the lake or take a stroll along the banks. After lunch, go on a 3-hour hike to the nearby Bokar Monastery. The hike offers stunning views of the valley and the monastery is a peaceful and spiritual place. In the evening, head back to Darjeeling and visit the Batasia Loop for a scenic view of the Darjeeling Toy Train.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park to see rare and endangered Himalayan species. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, also known as the Toy Train, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-try experience. For side trips, visit the nearby town of Kalimpong or the historic city of Gangtok. To maximize your fun, try out the local cuisine, such as momos and thukpa, and shop for souvenirs at the Mall Road. Don't forget to bring comfortable shoes and warm clothes as the weather can be unpredictable in the mountains.
