Darjeeling Nature Tour in November 2023

  1. Day 1: Tiger Hill Sunrise
    20 minutes (5.6 km) from Darjeeling town

    Rise early to travel to Tiger Hill for the magical sunrise over the Himalayas. The view from Tiger Hill is breathtaking as the sun casts a golden glow over the snowy peaks of Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. Enjoy a hot cup of Darjeeling tea at the nearby tea stall. After returning to town, take a walk around the Mall Road and grab some breakfast at the iconic Keventers.

  2. Day 2: Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Darjeeling town

    Spend the morning at the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, where you can spot the incredibly rare and endangered snow leopards, red pandas, and Himalayan wolves. The park also has a breeding program for the endangered Red Panda. After lunch, head to the nearby Peace Pagoda for some peace and quiet. End the day with a visit to the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre, where you can learn about Tibetan culture and purchase handicrafts.

  3. Day 3: Singalila National Park
    2 hours (51 km) from Darjeeling town

    Take a day trip to Singalila National Park for some stunning views of the Himalayas. The park is home to a large variety of flora and fauna, including the rare Himalayan Black Bear. You can take a trek through the park, and for the more adventurous, there's an option to trek to Sandakphu, the highest peak in West Bengal. After your trek, head to the nearby town of Mirik for a relaxing evening by the peaceful Mirik Lake.

  4. Day 4: Happy Valley Tea Estate
    30 minutes (3 km) from Darjeeling town

    Visit the picturesque Happy Valley Tea Estate for a tour of the tea plantation and to learn about the process of tea-making. Enjoy a cup of tea while taking in the stunning views of the surrounding hills. After lunch, visit the nearby St. Andrew's Church, a beautiful colonial-era church. End your trip with a visit to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the Tenzing Norgay Rock, named after the first man to summit Mount Everest and a local hero.

Other attractions to consider are the Ghoom Monastery, the Batasia Loop, and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. For side trips, you could visit the nearby town of Kalimpong or head to the nearby state of Sikkim for some more Himalayan adventures. To maximize your fun, try the local momos and thukpa and take a tour of the local markets for some unique souvenirs. Lastly, don't forget to pack comfortable shoes and warm clothing for your hikes and treks.
