3-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary for Puducherry in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Promenade Beach
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Puducherry Railway Station

    In the morning, take a stroll on the Promenade Beach. Enjoy the fresh breeze and the sunrise while taking a walk with your family. After breakfast, visit the Children’s Park and Dupleix Statue. In the afternoon, visit the Botanical Garden, which is a popular picnic spot for families. Don't forget to visit the Aquarium inside the Botanical Garden. In the evening, take a boat ride on Chunnambar Backwater. It's a perfect way to end your first day in Puducherry.

  2. Day 2: Auroville & Matrimandir
    20 minutes (11 km) from Promenade Beach

    On your second day, visit Auroville, a unique experimental township that was founded to promote human unity. Spend the morning exploring the community and learning about its history. After lunch, head to the Matrimandir, an iconic structure that symbolizes the town's spiritual aspirations. Visitors can view the Matrimandir from outside, but you need to pre-book to meditate inside. Spend the evening exploring the boutiques and eateries in the Auroville area.

  3. Day 3: Paradise Beach & Ousteri Lake
    20 minutes (8.9 km) from Auroville

    Spend the morning relaxing at the beautiful Paradise Beach. Swim in the clear waters and take a walk along the golden sand. After lunch, visit Ousteri Lake, which is an ideal place for bird-watching and boating. You can hire a boat and explore the pristine lake. In the evening, visit the French Quarter, also known as White Town. Take a walk along the cobbled streets, and admire the colonial architecture. End your day with a lovely dinner at one of the many French cafes and restaurants.

If you have more time, you can also visit the Puducherry Museum, Jawahar Toy Museum, and Serenity Beach. You can also take a day trip to Mahabalipuram or Thanjavur. To maximize your fun, rent a bike or a scooter to explore the town. Take a cooking class and learn how to cook traditional Indian dishes. Visit the local markets to buy souvenirs and handicrafts. Lastly, don't forget to try the delicious French cuisine and the famous filter coffee.
