Two-Day Itinerary for Agra in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Taj Mahal
15 minutes (5.2 km) from Agra Fort

The best time to visit Taj Mahal is in the morning to avoid the crowds. Witnessing the sunrise from this iconic monument is a breathtaking experience that you wouldn't want to miss. Spend your afternoon exploring the beautiful gardens and admiring the intricate details of the architecture. In the evening, enjoy the sunset view of the Taj Mahal from across the Yamuna river.

  2. Day 2: Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri
20 minutes (5.4 km) from Taj Mahal

Start your day by visiting Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This red sandstone fort is a perfect blend of Indian and Islamic architectural styles and served as the residence of Mughal Emperors. In the afternoon, take a short trip to Fatehpur Sikri, another World Heritage Site, and explore the abandoned city that served as the capital of the Mughal Empire. In the evening, return to Agra and do some shopping at the local markets.

Recommendations

Agra has a lot to offer, and two days might not be enough to cover everything. You can consider visiting Itmad-ud-Daula's Tomb, Akbar's Tomb, or Mehtab Bagh. For a unique experience, take a hot air balloon ride over Agra and witness the beauty of Taj Mahal from the sky. If you have more time, you can also plan a day trip to Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, or Vrindavan, a town famous for its temples and Holi celebrations. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, especially the famous Agra Petha. Happy exploring!
