Stroll MG Marg for cafés, shopping and New Year ambience; many cafés open until 9–10pm so it’s perfect for a relaxed NYE coffee or dinner. MG Marg is pedestrian-only and lively at night.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve at a popular Gangtok restaurant or hotel—book in advance; choose a place on/near MG Marg for convenience and nightlife access.
Start before sunrise to reach Tsomgo Lake (~40 km, ~2 hrs). The glacial lake at ~3,780 m is famed for changing colours and mountain vistas; carry warm clothes as temperatures are very cold in winter.
Walk around the designated viewing areas and enjoy the alpine landscape; facilities are limited, so plan short visits and avoid lingering in extreme cold.
If permits are arranged in advance (must be done through hotel / licensed operator) and weather/army clearance permit, proceed to Nathula Pass (India–China border). Note: Nathula is closed on Mondays and can be closed for security or weather — treat this as optional and confirm the night before.
