3-Day Family-Friendly Itinerary for Agra in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Taj Mahal
    15 minutes (5.7 km) from Agra Cantt Railway Station

    In the morning, visit the crown jewel of Agra, the Taj Mahal. Get there early to avoid the crowds and witness the sunrise over the stunning monument. Take a guided tour and learn about the history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon, head to Mehtab Bagh, a beautiful garden complex across the river from the Taj Mahal, for a picnic lunch with views of the Taj. In the evening, visit the Agra Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, and catch the sunset from its walls.

  2. Day 2: Fatehpur Sikri and Wildlife SOS
    1 hour 20 minutes (38.2 km) from Agra Fort

    In the morning, take a day trip to Fatehpur Sikri, a deserted city built by Emperor Akbar in the 16th century. Explore the many palaces, mosques and other architectural marvels in this ancient city. In the afternoon, visit Wildlife SOS, an animal rescue center that works to save and rehabilitate abused and injured animals. Meet elephants, bears, and other rescued animals up close and learn about their stories. In the evening, head back to Agra and immerse yourself in the city's vibrant nightlife.

  3. Day 3: Itmad-ud-Daulah and Sadar Bazaar
    20 minutes (7.7 km) from Wildlife SOS

    In the morning, visit Itmad-ud-Daulah, also known as the "Baby Taj". This mausoleum was built by Empress Nur Jahan for her father and is considered to be a draft of the Taj Mahal. Admire its intricate marble work and exquisite architecture. In the afternoon, head to Sadar Bazaar, a bustling market where you can shop for souvenirs, handicrafts and traditional Indian clothing. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Indian dinner at one of the city's many restaurants.

Other local attractions worth considering include Akbar's Tomb, Jama Masjid, and the Mughal Heritage Walk. For a side trip, you can take a day trip to Mathura, a holy city located 58 km from Agra, and visit the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
