The Vaishno Devi Temple is one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in India. It is believed that Mata Vaishno Devi fulfills the wishes of all her devotees who visit the temple with a pure heart. The morning visit to the temple is recommended as the crowds are relatively less. You can start with the Darshan while experiencing the holy aura and seeking blessings. Afterward, take a short break to enjoy the local snacks like Rajma Chawal, Kheer, and Gol Gappe. In the afternoon, you can visit the Bhairavnath Temple, which is considered to be an essential part of the Yatra. Finally, in the evening, visit the Ardh Kuwari Cave, which is believed to be the place where Mata Vaishno Devi meditated for nine months.
The second day can be dedicated to visiting Sanjichhat, located on top of the Trikuta mountain. Start early in the morning as it involves a steep climb. You can take the ropeway from the Bhawan or start the Yatra from the stairs. After reaching the top, you will witness a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and clouds. You can spend some time taking pictures, relaxing and enjoying refreshments. Once done, you can come back to the Bhawan by ropeway or by taking the stairs. In the afternoon, you can explore the Bhairo Baba Temple, which is dedicated to the demon Vairochana who was killed by Mata Vaishno Devi. In the evening, you can spend time shopping for souvenirs and handicrafts from the local shops.
If you have extra time, you can visit the nearby Shiv Khori Cave, which is located 70 km from Katra. The cave is known for its natural Shivling, and it is believed that Lord Shiva resides in this cave. You can also plan a trip to Patnitop, located 80 km from Katra. It is a beautiful hill station known for its scenic beauty and adventure sports like trekking, paragliding, and skiing. Ensure to carry comfortable clothes and shoes, especially for the Yatra, as the terrain can get tiring. Also, carry a water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat to protect yourself from the heat.
