Udaipur City Itinerary

Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.

Day 1
Udaipur

Explore Udaipur

  1. City Palace — Lake Pichola waterfront; explore the palace complex and its galleries this afternoon, for about 2 hours.
  2. Jagdish Temple — Old City, a short walk from the palace; admire the ornate architecture and take a quiet visit, about 30 minutes.
  3. Gangaur Ghat — Old City lakeside; stroll the steps and watch the light change over the water, about 30 minutes.
  4. Boat Ride on Lake Pichola — Depart from a lakeside jetty; take an early-evening ride for views of the palaces and lake islands, about 1 hour.
  5. Ambrai Restaurant — A short auto-rickshaw ride around the lake to Ambamata; enjoy dinner with waterfront views, around ₹800–1,500 per person.

Afternoon

Start at City Palace, right on the east bank of Lake Pichola. Give the galleries and courtyards about two hours; the complex is generally open daily from around 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but check locally before you go. Entry is roughly ₹400–₹700 for adults, depending on the ticket and visitor category. The palace has plenty of steps and uneven stone floors, so comfortable shoes help. From the palace, it’s a short walk through the lanes of the Old City to Jagdish Temple. Spend about 30 minutes admiring the carved stonework; entry is free, and you’ll need to leave your shoes outside.

Lakeside and Evening

Continue on foot to Gangaur Ghat, where you can take a quiet half-hour stroll down the steps and watch the light soften over the water. Then head to a nearby jetty for an early-evening boat ride on Lake Pichola—allow about an hour, and ask which departure gives you the best chance of catching sunset. Fares vary by boat and timing; budget roughly ₹400–₹800 per person, and check the last departure when you arrive so the palace visit doesn’t run late. Finish at Ambrai Restaurant in Ambamata, a short auto-rickshaw ride around the lake; book ahead for a waterfront table, especially around sunset. Dinner is roughly ₹800–₹1,500 per person, and the view back toward the illuminated palace is a lovely end to the day.
