2-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Munnar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit the Tea Plantations
    5 minutes (1.2 miles) from Munnar town center

    Morning: Start your day early and head to the Kolukkumalai Tea Plantations. Enjoy a scenic jeep ride to the top of the hills and witness the breathtaking sunrise. Learn about the tea-making process and take a guided tour of the plantations.

    Afternoon: After lunch, visit the Lockhart Tea Museum to learn about the history of tea in Munnar. Try some of the freshly brewed tea and buy some tea leaves to take home.

    Evening: End your day by watching the sunset at the Pothamedu View Point. Take a short hike and enjoy the panoramic views of the tea plantations and the surrounding hills.

  2. Day 2: Explore the National Park
    30 minutes (13 miles) from Munnar town center

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Eravikulam National Park to see the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Take a guided tour and learn about the flora and fauna of the region.

    Afternoon: Have lunch at one of the local restaurants and try some traditional Kerala cuisine. After lunch, visit the Tea Museum and learn about the evolution of tea plantations in Munnar.

    Evening: End your day with a visit to the Mattupetty Dam and Lake. Enjoy a boat ride and take in the stunning views of the surrounding hills and tea plantations.

Recommendations:

If you have more time, consider visiting the Anamudi Peak, the highest peak in South India, or the Marayoor Sandalwood Forests. You can also take a day trip to the nearby hill stations of Thekkady and Vagamon. To maximize your fun, try some of the adventure activities like trekking, rock climbing, and paragliding. Don't forget to try the local street food and buy some souvenirs like tea leaves, spices, and homemade chocolates.
