Dates are flexible. This day-by-day plan is provisional until you choose exact travel dates.
Start from Hyderabad before dawn for the roughly 9–11-hour drive to Aurangabad, allowing extra time for meal, fuel and rest stops. A practical route is via Nirmal, Nanded and Jalna; traffic and road conditions can stretch the journey, so confirm the route with your driver and keep water and snacks handy. Arrange your Aurangabad hotel and parking in advance. With the drive taking most of the day, fitting in both attractions depends on reaching town with daylight left—if seeing them matters, consider breaking the drive with an overnight stop rather than counting on a late arrival.
If you arrive in time, go first to Bibi Ka Maqbara in Begumpura. Allow about an hour to see the mausoleum and gardens; it generally closes around sunset, so check the day’s timings and entry fee before setting out. Then, if daylight and opening access allow, walk or take a short auto-rickshaw ride to nearby Himayat Bagh for a 30–45-minute breather. It’s a pleasant, quieter green space, but don’t count on it being accessible after dusk. If the drive runs late, ask your hotel to confirm what is still open and be prepared to make the visit brief.
Head to CIDCO for dinner at a well-reviewed local restaurant; budget roughly ₹300–700 per person, depending on what you order. A cab or auto from the Begumpura area is the easiest way to get there, and your hotel can suggest a reliable option nearby. Then settle in for the night in Aurangabad—you’ll want a proper rest after the long road day.
Allow 3–4 hours to explore the caves, with Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) as the standout. The site is generally open 9am–5:30pm and closed Tuesdays, but check current arrangements before setting out; arrive near opening to make the most of your visit. Carry water, sun protection and shoes with good grip—the complex is spread out, and the stone steps can be uneven. Admission fees can change, so check the current Archaeological Survey of India rate before you go.
Walk or take a very short ride to Grishneshwar Temple, right beside the caves. Allow 45–90 minutes for darshan, as queues can vary; modest dress is appropriate, and you may need to leave footwear outside. For lunch, Hotel Kailas, near the cave entrance, is a convenient local stop; expect to spend about ₹250–600 per person. Keep the meal unhurried but watch the clock so you can get on the road without a late start.
Continue by your pre-arranged private taxi toward Shirdi via the Ahmednagar–Shirdi road. Allow roughly 3–4 hours door to door from Ellora, including a short break; traffic and road conditions can add time, so expect to arrive in the evening. Confirm your driver’s pickup point and that the fare covers the wait during your visits, then check in and leave any temple visit for after you’ve settled in.
Timing note: The three-day outline cannot fit Ellora, Shirdi, meaningful Mahabaleshwar sightseeing, and a safe return to Hyderabad. Add at least two nights—one in Aurangabad and one in Mahabaleshwar—or omit Mahabaleshwar and return from Shirdi on Day 3.
Leave Shirdi around 6–7am in your pre-booked private taxi. Allow 5–7 hours door to door via Ahmednagar and Pune, with a comfort stop; traffic near Pune can stretch the drive. This is a long transfer, so keep expectations modest and check in before heading out rather than trying to squeeze in a full sightseeing day.
If you arrive with daylight to spare, stop at Venna Lake for about 45 minutes. It’s a popular, lively lakeside spot; boating and food-stall availability can vary, so treat this as a brief leg-stretch rather than a must-do activity. Local taxis or your driver can take you between the lake and your accommodation.
Continue to Mapro Garden, near Panchgani, for a snack or light meal—budget roughly ₹200–500 per person. It’s a handy break for strawberries, sandwiches and other café-style food; check the day’s hours before setting out, especially if you’re arriving late. The Shirdi drive leaves little time for both stops, so skip the lake if the road runs behind.
Don’t attempt the drive from Mahabaleshwar to Hyderabad today: after the Shirdi transfer, it would make for an excessively long day. Stay overnight in the area, then leave early the next morning for the roughly 9–11-hour road journey, allowing extra time for breaks and traffic. Confirm your driver and pickup the night before.
