4-Day Shoestring Budget Itinerary for Munnar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Mattupetty Dam
    30 minutes (11.6 km) from Munnar town

    Morning: Enjoy the serene views of the dam and the catchment area with your loved ones. You can also indulge in boating activities if the weather permits.

  2. Day 2: Top Station

    Morning: Start early and drive to Top Station to witness the stunning views of the Western Ghats. Top Station is located at an altitude of 1,880 meters above sea level and is the highest point on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road.
    Afternoon: On your way back from Top Station, visit the Mattupetty Indo-Swiss Farm, which is a 45-minute drive. The farm is famous for its high-quality dairy products and is spread over 1100 hectares of land.
    Evening: Head to the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, located 2 hours from the Mattupetty Indo-Swiss Farm, to explore the flora and fauna of the region. You can also take a guided trek to the Chinnar Watchtower to enjoy panoramic views of the sanctuary.

  3. Day 3: Tea Museum
    1 hour 30 minutes (40.6 km) from Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

    Morning: Start your day by visiting the Tea Museum, which is just 20 minutes from Munnar town. The museum showcases the history of tea production in Munnar, including the evolution of tea processing equipment.
    Afternoon: Head to the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, which is a 75-minute drive from the Tea Museum. The estate is located at an altitude of 8,000 feet above sea level and is one of the highest tea plantations in the world. You can take a guided tour of the tea factory and enjoy a cup of fresh tea.
    Evening: Visit the Rose Garden, which is a 20-minute drive from the Tea Museum. The garden has over 2,000 varieties of roses and is a feast for the eyes.

  4. Day 4: Eravikulam National Park
    25 minutes (9.6 km) from Rose Garden

    Morning: Start early and drive to the Eravikulam National Park, which is located 25 minutes from the Rose Garden. The park is home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr and several other species of fauna and flora. You can take a guided trek to the Anamudi Peak, which is the highest peak in South India.
    Afternoon: Visit the Lakkam Waterfalls, which is a 45-minute drive from the national park. The waterfalls are surrounded by lush greenery and are a perfect spot for a picnic.
    Evening: Explore the Attukad Waterfalls, which is just 10 minutes from the Lakkam Waterfalls. The waterfall cascades down from a height of 100 feet and is a sight to behold.

Recommendations

Apart from the places mentioned above, you can also explore the Marayoor Sandalwood Forests and the Cheeyappara Waterfalls. If you have time, you can also consider a day trip to the nearby hill stations like Kodaikanal and Ooty.
