Family Friendly 6-Day Itinerary for Nepal in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kathmandu Durbar Square
    30 minutes (4 miles) from Tribhuvan International Airport

    In the morning, explore the ancient temples and palaces of Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site. For lunch, head to the Garden of Dreams, a serene oasis in the midst of the city. In the afternoon, visit the Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as Monkey Temple, for stunning views of Kathmandu.

  2. Day 2: Chitwan National Park
    3.5 hours (95 miles) from Kathmandu Durbar Square

    Take a jungle safari in Chitwan National Park, home to one-horned Rhinos, Bengal tigers, and Asian elephants. In the afternoon, visit the Elephant Breeding Center and take a canoe ride down the Rapti River. Finish the day with a cultural program featuring traditional Tharu dance.

  3. Day 3: Pokhara
    4.5 hours (93 miles) from Chitwan National Park

    Start the day with a scenic drive to Pokhara, a beautiful lakeside town. Visit the International Mountain Museum to learn about the history of mountaineering in the Himalayas. In the afternoon, take a boat ride on Phewa Lake and hike up to the World Peace Pagoda for a stunning view of the Annapurna range.

  4. Day 4: Sarangkot
    30 minutes (7 miles) from Pokhara

    Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the Himalayas from the hilltop village of Sarangkot. Enjoy a breakfast with a view before hiking down to Pokhara. In the afternoon, visit the Devi's Falls and the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave where you can see an underground waterfall.

  5. Day 5: Bhaktapur
    2 hours (13 miles) from Pokhara

    Take a day trip to Bhaktapur, an ancient city east of Kathmandu. Explore the narrow streets and courtyards of Durbar Square, and visit the Nyatapola Temple, the tallest temple in Nepal. In the afternoon, visit the Changunarayan Temple, one of the oldest temples in the Kathmandu Valley, before returning to Kathmandu.

  6. Day 6: Boudhanath Stupa
    30 minutes (4 miles) from Kathmandu Durbar Square

    End the trip with a visit to Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the surrounding monasteries and shops for Tibetan handicrafts. In the afternoon, head to Thamel, a popular tourist district, for some last-minute shopping before departing.

In addition to the itinerary above, consider visiting Patan Durbar Square and Basantapur Tower in Kathmandu. For a side trip, take a short flight to Lukla and trek to Everest Base Camp.
