Two-Day Itinerary for Bangkok in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew
10 minutes (2km) from Khao San Road

In the morning, visit Bangkok's most famous attraction, the Grand Palace, which was once the official home of the Kings of Siam. Within the palace grounds is Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which houses a 66cm statue of the Buddha carved from a single piece of jade. In the afternoon, take a stroll to Wat Pho, one of Bangkok's oldest and largest temples, which is home to the famous 46m reclining Buddha. In the evening, head to Asiatique, a night market situated on the banks of Chao Phraya River, to enjoy shopping and dining in a lively atmosphere.

  2. Day 2: Chatuchak Weekend Market and Jim Thompson House
30 minutes (10km) from Khao San Road

On day two, start your day early with a visit to Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest markets in the world, where you can find almost anything from clothing, antiques, and souvenirs to pets and plants. In the afternoon, visit the Jim Thompson House, a stunning teakwood house surrounded by lush gardens, which once belonged to an American businessman who is credited with revitalizing the Thai silk industry. In the evening, head to Chinatown, Bangkok's vibrant cultural hub, to indulge in street food and explore the area's narrow alleys filled with shops and markets.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting Wat Arun, also known as the Temple of Dawn, which is located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River and offers stunning views of Bangkok's skyline. Another great option is taking a long-tail boat tour of the canals, or klongs, which will take you through Bangkok's hidden waterways and give you a glimpse of local life. To maximize your fun, try some of Thailand's famous street food, such as pad thai or mango sticky rice, and indulge in traditional Thai massage at one of the many spas around the city. Don't forget to also explore Bangkok's rooftop bars, which offer spectacular views of the city at night. For side trips, consider visiting Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Siam, or Kanchanaburi, where you can visit the famous Bridge on the River Kwai and learn about Thailand's WWII history.
