Two-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Mysore in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mysore Palace
    10 minutes (2.4 km) from Mysore Zoo

    In the morning, explore the grandeur of the Mysore Palace, the former residence of the Wodeyar family and one of the largest palaces in India. Admire the stunning architecture and intricate details of the palace's interior, including the Durbar Hall, Kalyana Mantapa and the royal throne.

    For lunch, head to Vinayaka Mylari for some authentic Mysore-style masala dosa.

    In the afternoon, visit the Chamundeshwari Temple, located atop Chamundi Hill. The climb to the temple offers breathtaking views of the city and surrounding hills. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and houses a 5-meter-tall statue of her.

    In the evening, take a stroll through the Brindavan Gardens, a beautiful terrace garden located next to the KRS Dam. Enjoy the colourful musical fountain show and do not miss the boat ride in the garden's large pond.

  2. Day 2: Karanji Lake and St. Philomena's Church
    15 minutes (4.5 km) from Mysore Palace

    In the morning, visit the Karanji Lake Nature Park, a serene oasis in the middle of the city. The park is home to over 100 species of birds and has a butterfly park, a walk-through aviary and a boating pond.

    For lunch, try some traditional Mysore street food at the Food Street located in the heart of the city.

    In the afternoon, head to St. Philomena's Church, a Neo-Gothic style church located near the Mysore Palace. The church has beautiful stained glass windows and intricate carvings and is one of the tallest churches in Asia.

    In the evening, end your trip with a visit to the Mysore Sand Sculpture Museum. The museum showcases sand art created by the famous sand artist MN Gowri.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Mysore Zoo, one of the oldest and most popular zoos in India. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Srirangapatna, which has historical significance and houses the Ranganathaswamy Temple and the Dariya Daulat Bagh.

To maximize your fun, you can book a heritage walk or a cycling tour of the city to explore the hidden gems of Mysore. Another good idea is to attend a classical music or dance performance at the Mysore Palace or the Jaganmohan Palace.
