2-Day Varanasi Itinerary for August 2023

  1. Day 1: Visit the Ghats and Temples
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Varanasi Junction Railway Station

    Start your day getting blessed by visiting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. You can then proceed towards the famous ghats of Varanasi, such as Assi Ghat, Manikarnika Ghat and Dasaswamedh Ghat. Take a boat ride to observe the morning rituals performed by the locals. Head to the historic Sarnath to join the afternoon tour and visit the ancient stupas and museums. In the evening, attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony at Dasaswamedh Ghat and witness the beautiful puja.   2. Day 2: Explore the Culture and Art
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Assi Ghat

    Start your day by visiting the Banaras Hindu University, one of the largest residential universities in Asia. The campus houses numerous museums and art galleries, including the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum and the New Vishwanath Temple. Afternoon, head towards the Ramnagar Fort, located on the banks of the Ganges. The fort is a beautiful blend of Mughal and Indian architecture and houses a museum, a temple and a vintage car collection. In the evening, head towards the Varanasi Silk Emporium and witness the making of the famous Banarasi silk sarees. You can try your hand at weaving and purchase these authentic sarees as souvenirs.

If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to Vindhyachal, located 90 km away from Varanasi. It is believed to be the abode of the Goddess of Power, Vindhyavasini Devi.
