3-Day Itinerary for Mysore in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Mysore Palace
    10 minutes (2.3 km) from Mysore Railway Station

    Start your day at the Mysore Palace, also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, the former residence of the royal family of Mysore. Marvel at the intricate architecture and beautiful stained glass windows. In the afternoon, head to the Mysore Zoo which is home to over 100 species of animals. You can take a safari through the zoo to see tigers, lions, and bears up close. In the evening, visit the Brindavan Gardens, a beautiful and well-manicured garden with fountains and light shows.

  2. Day 2: Chamundi Hill
    25 minutes (13.9 km) from Mysore Palace

    Start your day at the Chamundi Hill, a sacred hill that is home to the Chamundeshwari Temple. Climb the 1000 steps to the top to see panoramic views of the city. In the afternoon, head to the Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, also known as the Mysore Zoo. The zoo is home to over 100 species of animals including tigers, lions, and bears. In the evening, visit the St. Philomena's Church, a beautiful neo-gothic style cathedral that is over 200 years old.

  3. Day 3: Karanji Lake
    15 minutes (4.1 km) from Chamundi Hill

    Start your day at the Karanji Lake, a beautiful lake with a walking trail. You can rent a paddleboat and go out on the lake or visit the butterfly park which is home to over 45 species of butterflies. In the afternoon, head to the Jaganmohan Palace Art Gallery and Auditorium where you can see a collection of beautiful paintings and artifacts. In the evening, visit the Kukkarahalli Lake, a picturesque lake with a walking trail where you can watch the sunset.

Recommendations

If you have extra time, consider visiting the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, located about 20 km from Mysore. The bird sanctuary is home to a variety of birds including storks, kingfishers, and egrets. You can take a boat ride through the sanctuary to see the birds up close. Another side trip worth considering is the nearby city of Srirangapatna, a historic city that was once the capital of the Mysore kingdom. Finally, make sure to try some of the local cuisine, such as masala dosa, vada, and mysore pak.
