Discovering Malaysia in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kuala Lumpur
    15 minutes (6.7 km) from Kuala Lumpur International Airport

    In the morning, explore the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world. Visit the observation deck for stunning views of Kuala Lumpur's skyline. In the afternoon, head to the historical district of Merdeka Square, where Malaysia's flag was hoisted for the first time. Visit the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the National Museum of Malaysia to learn more about the country's rich history. In the evening, wander around the vibrant Bukit Bintang district and try some local street food.

  2. Day 2: Georgetown, Penang
    4 hours (354 km) from Kuala Lumpur

    In the morning, visit the Kek Lok Si Temple, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia. Admire the beautiful architecture and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. In the afternoon, explore the colorful streets of Georgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the street art and murals created by local artists and try some of the famous Penang food, such as char kway teow and curry mee. In the evening, take a relaxing stroll along the waterfront promenade while enjoying the sea breeze.

  3. Day 3: Langkawi Island
    3 hours (172 km) from Georgetown by ferry

    In the morning, visit the Langkawi Sky Bridge, a 125-meter-long curved pedestrian bridge that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding islands. Take the cable car to reach the bridge and enjoy the scenic ride. In the afternoon, head to Pantai Cenang, a popular beach with crystal clear water and white sand. Relax on the beach or try some water sports, such as parasailing or jet skiing. In the evening, take a sunset cruise around the island and enjoy the stunning views of the sunset over the Andaman Sea.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting Malacca, another UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich cultural heritage and delicious food. You can also take a side trip to Taman Negara, one of the oldest rainforests in the world, and go jungle trekking or river rafting. To maximize your fun, try some of the local street food, such as nasi lemak and roti canai, and visit the night markets for some shopping and entertainment.
