Exploring the City of Mysore in 3 Days

  1. Day 1: Mysore Palace
    Located in the heart of the city, 10 minutes (2.3 km) from Mysore Junction Railway Station

    In the morning, visit the magnificent Mysore Palace, also known as Amba Vilas Palace. This beautiful palace is the residence of the Wadiyars, the former royal family of Mysore. Admire the intricate interiors, the beautiful architecture, and the serene gardens. After a quick lunch, head to the Regional Museum of Natural History, which exhibits the rich flora and fauna of South India. Finally, in the evening, visit the Brindavan Gardens, located 20 minutes (18 km) away from the palace. Enjoy the colorful fountains, take a boat ride, and watch the musical fountain show.

  2. Day 2: Chamundi Hill
    Located 30 minutes (13 km) from the Mysore Palace

    Start your day with a visit to the Chamundeshwari Temple, located on top of the Chamundi Hill. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, an incarnation of Goddess Durga. Enjoy the panoramic views of the city from the top. After lunch, visit the St. Philomena's Church, which is one of the oldest churches in India and has beautiful Gothic architecture. In the evening, head to the Mysore Zoo, located 20 minutes (7 km) away from the church. The zoo is home to a variety of animals, including tigers, elephants, giraffes, and more.

  3. Day 3: Srirangapatna
    Located 30 minutes (20 km) from Mysore Palace

    Today, take a trip to Srirangapatna, located on the banks of the river Cauvery. Visit the Ranganathaswamy Temple, which is one of the largest temples in South India and has a beautiful gopura. After a quick lunch, visit the Dariya Daulat Palace, located 10 minutes (4 km) away from the temple. This palace was built by Tipu Sultan and has beautiful frescoes and artwork. Finally, visit the Gumbaz Mausoleum, located 5 minutes (2 km) away from the palace. This mausoleum houses the tombs of Tipu Sultan, his father Hyder Ali, and his mother Fathima Begum.

Recommendations

If you have time, consider visiting the KRS Dam, which is a beautiful dam located near the Brindavan Gardens. You can also take a trip to the nearby town of Nanjangud, which has a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. If you are interested in silk, visit the Silk Weaving Factory to see the process of making silk sarees. To maximize your fun, try the local food, especially the Mysore Pak and Masala Dosa. You can also shop for souvenirs at the Government Silk Factory and the Devaraja Market.
